Event Description: Future City Program in Southern Nevada

The Future City Competition is an engaging educational program that empowers middle school students in Southern Nevada to explore STEM concepts. Through hands-on projects, students tackle citywide sustainability challenges using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) and project management skills. This program not only fosters mentorship and problem-solving abilities but also highlights the importance of engineering in a collaborative environment.

Recent Success

Last year was a landmark year for the Nevada Region, with our regional champion achieving 5th place at the national competition in Washington, DC. We also saw significant fundraising efforts and a record number of engineering volunteers, showcasing the dedication of our local engineering community.

Transition of Leadership

After 20 years of involvement, I am transitioning out of the Regional Coordinator role as my family plans to leave the Las Vegas area. This is an ideal time to pass on the responsibilities to someone who can continue the momentum we've built.

The Regional Coordinator role includes:

• Organizing and running the competition with the committee

• Building connections within the engineering community

• Expanding participation and sponsorships

• Making a meaningful impact on students and the profession

I am available to share my experiences and resources, and I will continue to provide support during the transition.
