Method Detection Limits: In 2017 the EPA adopted an updated version of 40 CFR 136 Appendix B: Definition and Procedure for the Determination of the Method Detection Limit—Revision 2. The MDL procedure had been the same since it was first promulgated in 1984. As such, it is not surprising that many laboratories are unaware of the change or are struggling to understand how to implement the new procedure in their laboratory. This presentation will seek to define Method Detection Limits (MDL), explain how to calculate them and give laboratories the best ways to implement the new procedure.
