South Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility
The STMWRF facility receives approximately 3.5 MGD from the city of Reno and Washoe County. This tertiary treatment plant has been undergoing significant expansion work to convert operation to a Bardenpho activated sludge process to enable a greater degree of biologic nutrient removal. Additional facilities are being added to increase total plant capacity from 4.5 MGD to 9.42 MGD. STMWRF has no surface water discharge as it is a 100% reuse facility, providing Category A effluent. Water is stored seasonally in the adjacent Huffaker reservoir which boasts nearly 2 billion gallons in effluent storage capacity.
Reno-Stead Water Reclamation Facility
The RSWRF facility receives approximately 2.0 MGD and is reaching substantial completion on a facility expansion to bring their capacity to 4 MGD. The expansion project includes design and modification of the existing headworks, biofilter, blower building, and chemical facilities, and construction of new reactor basins, secondary clarifiers, scum pump station, RAS pump station, filter feed pump station, tertiary filters, UV disinfection, and effluent storage tank. This facility currently produces Category A effluent sent to Swan Lake, reuse customers, and will soon be supplying an Advanced Purified Water Facility to create Category A+ water for groundwater aquifer recharge.
The Women in Scholarship was created to recognize outstanding women achievers in the water sector. Each winner(s) will be awarded a $750 scholarship to be used towards their academic pursuits. The Women in Water Breakfast at the 2023 Nevada Water Environment Association Annual Conference will recognize these scholarship winners and bring members of the water community together. The breakfast will feature inspirational talks and opportunities for networking. We hope you will be able to join us!
Scholarship closing date: February 6, 2022
