2009 Stockholm Junior Water Prize - Nevada

The Southern Nevada Regional Science & Engineering Fair was held on March 13, 2009 at UNLV. This years recipients for science Fair Awards from NWEA are:

  • Lea Jensen (S2-14 - Henderson International School ) - “How to Purify Muddy Water” - $25
     
  • Stephan Myhal (S5-46 -Charlotte Hill Elementary School) - “The Effects of Pollution on Plant Growth” (Acid Rain) - $50
     
  • Kelly & Sydney Eastwood (S6L-11 - St. Viator Catholic School) - “Water Conservation” - $25
     
  • Phillip Cirone, Drew Johns, Jack Miller (I7-7 St. Viator Catholic School) - “Grey Water Purification System” - $25

In addition to these students, the NWEA chose Kirsten Perry, a 9th Grader at Elko High School to represent NV at this year’s Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) National Competition. The national competition was held in Anchorage, Alaska from June 25-27, 2009, hosted by the Alaska Water Wastewater Management Association. This year’s competition was very successful. The judges were impressed with the caliber of research presented. Kirsten’s project is titled “pH and Salt Content of Soils and Irrigation Water of the Lower Humboldt River” We are pleased to have Kirsten represent the NWEA at this year’s SJWP National Competition. Kristen reports she had a wonderful time and is all excited and motivated to start work on her project for next year.
